Board and Planning for 2012-2013

Board

As many of you know, our little chapter that Mike, Kristi, both Marks, and others got off the ground has a history of meeting all the goals set by the University of Miami Alumni Association. In order to keep with that tradition, we need a few volunteers. We are looking for board members for the 2012-2013 year. When a few volunteers are coupled with those of us who return from ’11-’12, we’ll be able to keep the jobs small and easy.

There is a wide variety both in types of work and in work load. Some roles plan one little event a year. Others have several ~weekly responsibilities. We’ve already had a couple of volunteers in a couple of areas.

Some Changes/Ideas

  • I’d like us to have two I.bis volunteers: maybe one “home” and one “away” so those people would only be responsible for the sign in sheets and decorations for half of the season. Four of the game times are already set. I’d also like to see us gather for one basketball game and one baseball game.
  • One person volunteered to manage our facebook group, so we can create a position for that.
  • Other changes/suggestions are welcome, too, of course.

Plan for Fall

We also have a little planning work to get ready for the fall season. We have successfully planned the entire fall in one conference call over the last few years. I think that will work again.

If you are interested in any of the positions (see the ’11-’12 board listed below), please email me, Lori Luza, lori@texasbluelime.com , with the roles you’d like to consider.

Finally, if you have suggestions for activities for the year, send those, too! Some of our best ideas come from members.

And, just for fun: there is a Google calendar of all our games that you can subscribe to. Preview it here:

So, who’s with us? 😉

It’s great to be a Miami Hurricane in Austin!

All-ACC picnic: April 14th

ACC Alumni Picnic and Fundraiser
Saturday, April 14th, 11:00am-3:00pm
2225 Andrew Zilker Rd
Austin, TX 78746

Please join the Austin alumni chapters of ACC schools on Saturday, April 14th, for a day in the park. We have reserved a pavilion in Zilker Park here that comes with plenty of parking, a gated play areas, and tons of space for a number of different activities and games. We’ll be setting up cornhole (bean-bag toss), ladder golf, bocce, etc. for everyone to enjoy and compete against other schools. This event will be great for alumni of all ages and our families. This will be a great mix of both young and wise alumni, both new to the area and locals.

We will also be raising money for Austin Sunshine Camps (description below) so this is a great chance to help raise money and awareness for an excellent program benefiting Austin youth.

There will be limited food provided (basically just A LOT hot dogs) so we are asking that everyone contribute a dish or drink of your choosing to the pot.

So to recap:

Austin YMBL Sunshine Camps was started in 1928 by the Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) of Austin. The YMBL set out to positively affect the lives of youth living below the poverty line. We serve more than 850 youth each year from Bastrop, Hayes, Travis and Williamson Counties. Since 1928, ASC has served 44,500 campers and students in Central Texas. The students and families served by ASC are living below the poverty line (defined as a family of four with an annual income of $22,050). All of our programs are completely free of charge to participants. Austin Sunshine Camps is best known for our namesake programs, the camps at Zilker Park and Lake Travis.
